Are there zombies in Scripture?
There is an interesting passage in the prophetic book of Zechariah. The prophet saw a time when people’s flesh would rot while they were standing. This would be caused by some type of plague that would also affect animals.
The prophet says that this plague (which is sent by God) will cause the world to panic and pool their collective treasuries together. Perhaps this pooling of resources is to search for a cure for the plague or to defeat the zombie hordes?
Here is the passage:
And this shall be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the peoples that wage war against Jerusalem: their flesh will rot while they are still standing on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths. And on that day a great panic from the Lord shall fall on them, so that each will seize the hand of another, and the hand of the one will be raised against the hand of the other. Even Judah will fight at Jerusalem. And the wealth of all the surrounding nations shall be collected, gold, silver, and garments in great abundance. And a plague like this plague shall fall on the horses, the mules, the camels, the donkeys, and whatever beasts may be in those camps. (Zechariah 14:12-15 ESV)
What do you think? Could this passage in the Bible describe a zombie uprising?

I always check my Bible when I see posts quoting from it. There is a definate thought that maybe a Zombie plague could break out. However, it may also point to a nuclear holocaust in which radiation sickness could be affecting the world. Maybe both! After the attacks, some people’s bodies mutate and become zombies! An interesting thought here. Thanks for pointing it out. I may just have to use this passage in a story!
Michael,
Yes, it is an interesting passage. I think there are several different kinds of “plagues” that could cause what is described in Zechariah. Some type of zombie outbreak is only one possibility. Later, we’ll publish a few more passages of Scripture that could indicate the existence (past, present, or future) of zombies.
