Are You an Institution Zombie

Here at Zombie Theology we greatly appreciate the interaction and input of others in the zombie community. We have had some great comments and interaction on facebook and twitter, but we would like to move your involvement a step further. This is why we have created the new “Field Submissions” category. This category will be entirely made up of guest submissions. These can cover any genre of writing: short stories, tips and tricks, how to’s, interesting news, poems, videos, whatever. If it relates to zombies we want to read it and share it here at Zombie Theology. If you have any ideas or questions please email us at zombietheology[at]gmail[dot]com.

The following Field Submission is brought to you by Swanny. He blogs at “Allergic to BS” and plans to post zombie material such as this on his “I-Zombie” page. (This is the first article posted so far.) Swanny gave us permission to post this article on Zombie Theology. This is what ZT is all about!

As always, we pray for your sanity and survival in these dark days…

Are You an Institution Zombie?

For this writing, “institution” is defined as an organization, establishment, foundation, society, or the like, devoted to the promotion of a particular cause or program, especially one of a public, educational, or religious character

A “zombie” is defined as a person whose behavior or responses are wooden, listless, or seemingly rote; automaton.

So when I say “Institutional Zombie”, I want to open up the eyes of many “walking dead” that are stuck in a system of indoctrination and do not even know it. An automaton (a worker)

You are molded by the environment you are in (become zombies). Within a system a decision is not brought on by a consensus from the group as a whole, it is typically dictated from the top from a group of elders within a church body, or a group of people that sit on a school board. I was in the mold, and now I have busted out the mold and I let Christ (and His Living Body) mold me and not molded by a human made institution.

There is a video game that is played called Left4Dead, where you play 1 of 4 lonely survivors fighting off the hoard of zombies. As I now walk in the post-institutional wilderness away from the church system and the education system, I feel like one of those characters fighting off the majority of citizens that live to maintain the hoard of people to keep the indoctination going. You do not like how the system is ran, you can gear yourself up for a major fight, and the hoard is there to take you down.

As I continue to live outside the system.. All institutions start to look and run the same regardless of their intent. It comes down to an agenda that is set forth within the system. People live to keep the system alive and kicking.

Well lets look into the depths of the institution of church and education

In the church you have to meet spiritual goals (study, read), and in the education system you are expected to pass tests.

You are expected to take classes (and many of them) in the church or you are looked at as not in with what is right, and in the education system you are to take as many classes (AP, extra credit) to get the best grade you can to graduate as high as you can.. hopefully with top honors.

In both the church and the education system you are expected to memorize and regurgitate what you have memorized.

Volunteering in a must for either system to work. In the church volunteers are needed to keep the system of programs running, and in the education system you are expected to be a volunteer in many activities and also to be a leader in them too.

Both are set up for pure indoctrination

Discipleship class in church… you get a piece of paper in the end that says you are now fit to work outside the system, and in the education system you cannot do anything without a piece of paper that says you are fit to work.

You are a slave of each system that is set up before you (a disposable worker)

Talk about leaving the church institution as well as the education system

Every subject is a study of work.. all programs are geared toward being a better worker.

Between the walls of either institution you are expected to be and act the same. In the church it is to come to a consensus on how to dress, act, eat, volunteer, ect) and the education system says you should be a good test taker and memorizer. “Those who deviate to see the light (son) through different lenses are worthless to the scheme of school (church) and therefore are viewed with contempt.

In both institutions are a critical thinker or do you just accept what others say as truth

Was not until I was outside the system where I was free to ask questions before accepting it as doctrine. The same goes for the home school side of our lives

Both systems are worlds guided by fear. In church, if you do not read scripture every day, volunteer, ect you are not doing it right and risk punishment. In school, if you do not get the best grades and score the best on tests and be a leader in 50 different activities you risk failure as a person in society.

Money is a motivational force on both sides

Both are systems that train a worker bee, not inspire a human being

In church you are trained to blurt out scripture to show your doctrine is correct, and in the schools you blurt out facts to show others you are smarter than others and this is the way to be.

a church (as the real body of Christ himself) can grow only with healthy foundation (Him), and the school needs a system that supports rather than holds down

Hierarchy is built in both structures

You can stand up to each system while in it and speak you mind. If shunned you will be asked to leave

If you are in the system I am meant to motivate, not condemn

Do not let tradition stand… break the walls of corruption on both sides

say goodbye to the institution or church and education. Walk around a live person, not a walking dead

Zombies of to the next level of education.. college and seminary.. more indoctrination (just packaged different)
