The Internet Zombie

The Internet Zombie

It’s a temptation we all face…sitting there, staring blankly into the unforgiving monitor of our computer. The urge to give in and be overcome by the internet virus is one many of us succumb to far too quickly.

We have every intention of bringing life. We have set aside time in our schedule to build, to write, to record…to create

…and then we hear the moan of Facebook, or Twitter, or Reddit, or any number of other entities vying for our devoted attention, seeking to infect us with complacency, drawing our focus and making us fall into the trap of becoming an internet zombie.

How do we fight it? How can we hope to survive and thrive when there is such an insanely large outbreak fighting against our creativity?

We protect ourselves: we stay on task, unwavering in the face of infecting distraction; we push through, not giving the virus time to settle in and change our habits; we prepare ourselves beforehand, plotting our escape should the focus virus find its way to our skin.

What we don’t do is assume we are protected. Defense loses the day in this one. If there should be any hope of not falling victim to becoming just another brainless internet zombie, you have to strike first. Offense is the only option.

Our God created us as creatures with the ability and task to create. What better way for the enemy to attack us then by planting the virus of complacency?

So if you settle in to create, be warned: The virus is real. Should I walk behind you in the coffeeshop, or the cyber cafe, peeking over your shoulder…and hear you moaning while videos of kittens cycle across your screen…

…I’ll know it is too late.
